This Hair Color Trend is Taking Over The Red Carpet Right Now—But Looks Great on Everyone ~ Redbook

Surfer hair, sunkissed hair, lived-in color—heck, call it whatever you want. Here’s what’s for certain about what we’re calling “Summer Hair:” It’s multi-dimensional, it’s low-maintenance, and it’s ridiculously gorgeous for summer. This not quite-blonde, not-quite brown hue is all about your natural base shade, spruced up by a few strategically placed highlights that start whisper-thin at, or close to the roots, then gradually widen into thicker ribbons.

“It’s six-month hair,” proclaims colorist Johnny Ramirez of Ramirez-Tran salon in L.A., who insists you’ll only need to see your colorist twice a year in order to keep your hair looking on point; the manner in which the highlights grow out mimic the way summery, sun-lightened strands grow out after the summer. (Exception: If you have grays, you’ll need to go in more often to touch up your base color.) Ramirez, who graces his Midas’ Touch on the locks of celebs like Jessica Alba, Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio, was initially inspired by his daughter’s hair. “She’s been my muse from the minute she was born,” he says. “All kids in general have the most beautiful color. I’ve analyzed it so much that I’ve translated the look to every client I see.”
